In partnership with Dott07, Northumbria University of Design, Blueprint, Core77, and Adrem comes Intersections 07, a two-day conference exploring what designers need to know for the future. On Thursday 25th and Friday 26th October 2007, at the UK’s Baltic Centre of Contemporary Art, NewcastleGateshead, Jeremy Myerson will chair the two day event.
Design is transforming as it adapts to a world in transition. Design has expanded into new terrain and the boundaries between disciplines are breaking down. As it changes so do the skill-sets needed to practice it; to stay competitive designers are adapting to the new landscape, by acquiring new know-how. Many developments in the nineties were driven by the integration of computer skills into the designers toolbox.
Now the emphasis is on acquiring more multi-disciplinary and contextual skills. Groundbreaking designers from different disciplines will tell stories at Intersections about what they have learned lately, what they expect to learn next, and why. The conference will also feature lively debate between path-finding designers and thinkers with different views on how designers should prepare for the future.
Intersections 07 promises to look at the limits of design, challenges of design thinking, designing interactions, design schools as the new B-schools. It will question; where design ends and art begins, what the new know-how in service design is and asks; as designers, are we guilty of killing the planet?
With an outstanding list of keynote speakers it is sure to be an inspiring event. The event takes place during the two week Dott 07 Festival.
