Brussels is this year’s partner city of RHEINDESIGN. So already one day before, the »Design Ambassadors« Isabel Hamm, Prof. Dr. Michael Erlhoff and Tobias Gross made their way to Brussels to meet Belgian designers there.
The first spot to visit was »101% Designed in Brussels« – an initiative of the Foreign Trade Department of the Brussels Capital Region and »Mode Design Brussels 2006«. In presentation are the works of 5 young designers from Brussels: at the moment the work of Urban-Room, a design studio founded by Kris Gysels and Eva Verbeiren. The two designers are working on the project »Deck« – a »research for a standard universal structural solution for different scale levels and different programms«. Well, ok. Basically it’s about a weldable profile that is borrowed from industry and is able to form light and rounded constructions: for example a half-pipe as in the picture or also rounded tables.
The exhibition space is changing and the next period will belong to Charlotte Lancelot, who is working with embroided plastic decoratives. Also featured is Sylvain Willenz, who is experimenting in new ways of using rubber in design (later more). But if we are talking about experiments, for sure Christiane Högner is on top of the list.
So far some news live from Brussels. Tomorrow the Parisien designers will join to drive back to Cologne in the fast Thalys train while Prof. Erlhoff will conduct a design discussion on board the train. We’ll update the readers of ROGER LiVE as soon as possible.
