  • Torino – just another or THE capital of design?

    Announcement

The logo of World Design Capital Torino 2008Since design starts to be recognized as a factor that is beneficial to culture (which it truly is!), probably many mayors may have raised the claim to be a »capital of design«. So did the mayor of Stockholm at the 2005 award ceremonies at the FutureDesignDays and also the mayor of Cologne at an award given by a big German bank in 2006. Also the UNESCO is partizipating: in January 2006 the international institution declared Berlin amongst Buenos Aires to be »City of Design« and so to participate in UNESCO’s »Global Alliance for Cultural Diversity«.

But now – fasten your seatbelts!. Tata… here it is: the first and only »World Design Capital«! This nomination is an idea of IDA. Who is IDA? Continue Reading »

    Fashion or disease?

    Comment

A lady promoting the »sick-style« in Brussels. The first you think when you see those beautiful legs walking on a trottoir in Brussels from the corner of your eyes could probably be »oh, the poor girl is injured«. But on the second glance you will see that it is not a bandage but a sock that she is wearing. Maybe this is a new way of fashion coming up? It could be the adaption of the decadent picture the high class fashion industry is often promoting in its advertising campaigns: pale, bored, suffering models with no prospects and no sense of being. »Sick is beautiful!« in a way… . So maybe this communication strategy is now also entering the workaday style. Surely it will be exciting to see how people will apply the sick-style in their personal fashion.

Becoming a design student – the quick guide

    Announcement

    The »Hack 2 School« Blog of Core77

Some interesting tipps for the future or the present design student is being presented on the »Hack 2 School« website of the design magazine Core 77. In the five chapters classroom, dormroom, represent, crash course and cheat sheet the design students gets all the information he needs to become a cliché fitting creative. It’s a good mix between information that’s really useful and ironic comments that are hidden everywhere (at least I hope that it is meant to be satire…). If you follow the instructions I am sure you’ll be the perfect design students and everyone from outer-branch will surely believe you’re a designer! In the end the page also offers an idea about the differences in design studies between Europe and the U.S.
